I have done it loads of times before, I was using SBsettings and I turned off SSH by accident. The iPod Switched off with the black screen.

I now CANNOT get my iPod into the DFU mode, and at the moment the ipod is unuasable.

What help can you give me?

Are you holding down the buttons for the correct amount of time. I believe it's 15 seconds holding both buttons, then another 15 seconds only holding the sleep button. I could be wrong though...

I have done it before - 10 seconds with both, 8 seconds with the home button.

Plug it... (windows sound device plugged + unrecognised device)
Hold Power + Home to power it down for like 10 seconds (another windows sound device unplugged)
Then leave Power and keep Home for like 25 seconds (but wait for the 'device plugged' sound + unrecognised device again)
    Then start your boot program.

You can't can't go into DFU mode.

EDIT: Or leave it plug for 15 minutes... maybe it out of battery! Is Libusb installed ?

The "unrecognised" device bit isn't coming up as it used to either.
The "device plugged" bit doesn't come up either when I do it your way.
