I have a technical question about the iPod Touch wifi download speed and its capability. I currently have around 10 Mb/s download when tested on my laptop, but my iPod seems to top out at 5 Mb/s. Is this the fastest the iPod's hardware will allow, or is there something else I'm missing here?

    Thanks,

That could be true, considering that a laptop's WIFI capabilities are much stronger that our convinient iPods. For example, if I have tree bars of WIFI on my laptop, I have 2 bars of WIFI on my iPod. If I have one bar on my laptop, I have no WIFI signal on my iPod, or I could simply look for another signal. I'm not promising/confirming that the iPod WIFI runs at 5MB/s at it's fullest, but it won't ever compare to the speeds of a laptop.
    What say you?

Signal strength shouldn't be a problem as I'm a foot away from my wireless router. The ipod has 802.11g built in. Wireless g's throughput is much higher than 5 Mb.

This is where I get confused.

Also, I know there are other factors involved when it comes to browsing speeds on the Touch. Example, processing the images on screen. But logically testing your connection speed on two separate devices should yield the same result?

the bottleneck in the device is the speed at which you can write to the storage RAM
the wifi radio is capable of speeds exceeding what can be written, this is why some heavy-data apps like Torentula seem to freeze up sporatically.

How do you know that your iPod downloaded at 5mb/s again?
