does that mean that all of the 1g and 2g ipodtouches apps will no longer be posted in app store when 3g comes around?

Apple is notorious for thing like this. The 1.3 firmware for the iPod 5G is still buggy, but they stopped al support & updates around 2 months after the iPod classic was released.

nah. i don't think they'll drop support for the 1g since we all run similar firmwares.

i wonder if i keep this 1g of mine and wait 20 years or so and see what it's worth. lol

Mine was out of warranty ages ago

Ironically, a week after it was out of warranty, the home button broke. Although for those of you who remember, I put a Gold Back on it, so I voided the warranty anyway

Eventually, it will happen to all of the devices. The original ipod touch in some ways wasnt meant to have full 3rd party app support from the get go. With no speaker, and now more noticeably bluetooth, of all the iDevices this would be the first to go.
Also the original iphone without MMS gps or 3g is crippling as well.
But perhaps the biggest bridge between the new and the old is the OpenGLES 2.0, since apps specifically written for this will not be compatible with anything to date except the iPhone 3GS.

So to put it short, I see a more type thing like the 1.1.5 firmware happening. A very stable, ending firmware, and as long as the older apps are still profitable they would be there.

Well, I bought my 2G in October of last year and by right, the warranty was due to expire in two months... However, I decided to play safe and go for the AppleCares... At least the warranty is now until 2010!

The owners of the 1g had it real good. We were the first to experience the golden age 1.1.x. I am a proud 1g owner. Once the date passes I will hang my iPod up in it original box with it cables and headphones. The last 2 years was a bumpy ride. Man I remember when 'revolution' was out. And customize was at it best way back then. Also with summer board and the famous installer by rip dev.

It was a great ride, our 1g will go down in history.
