Ive been down that road, but I could never successfully get my touch to sync under linux. And Ive tried pretty much everything, even virtualization.

I don't think this generation of ipods works with anything besides itunes. I know the new nano lost compatibility to my JBL speakers. Each successive generation subtracts compatibility, so you may need to switch back to itunes.

Download WINE Search it in add/remove programs under the accsories tab i think in ubuntu. Then Download itunes.exe When done right click it and Select open with wine windows program loader.

And Install it to your desktop. MAKE SURE ITS NOT /:C As that does not exist in Ubuntu.

And Once installed Plug in your ipod with itunes open.

I havent tried this. But i have with other apps.

    PM if problem continues.

you can use amarok to sync wirelessly (Applications>add/remove>) then search for amarok

after taht follow this tut (http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/04/21/wirelessly-sync-an-iphone-or-ipod-touch-with-ubuntu/)... make sure you can ssh, you have autolock turned off, and have a static ip...

also for the steps involving ubuntu, change anything that says "gutsy" to "intrepid" (if you are on 8.10... f you are on 8.04, its "hardy", etc)

edit; yu can also tryy rhythmbox (http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/04/21/wirelessly-sync-an-iphone-or-ipod-touch-with-ubuntu/)

    or gtkpod
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install gtkpod
