You cant tether an ipod touch to a computer. The tethering in 3.0 is for iphones only. It basically shares the iphones internet with the computer, so the computer uses the iphones internet.

Unless you are referring to a tethered jailbreak, and then i think thats obsolete now?

but could we use the iPod's WI-FI to add WI-FI to a computer that doesn't have it?

There's only a few useful things that would involve the words 'tethering' and 'iPod Touch' that I can think of.

    1. Tethering your computer to your iPod because the computer has no wireless card, which has not yet been done (and wouldn't really be worth it, since wireless cards are cheap anyway).
    2. Tethering your iPod touch to a cellular device to get wireless internet anywhere, which is possible with the iPhone and many Windows Mobile devices.

Since 1 isn't practical, I'm going to assume you're talking about 2, unless I missed the point of your post altogether.

rafarquhar, I'd say #1 is more practical than #2. I mean think about it, it's useful to plug it into a computer and use it as a wireless card, but plugging it into an iphone 2 feet away that has internet so you can use the internet on the iPod? that's just pointless. =]
