I am suspecting a hardware problem, but not sure, so I thought I would try here...

Model is Ipod touch 2G. Firmware was 3.1.3 before it died.

I put the device in DFU mode. I connect to itunes and start the recovery process. Ipod gets to a point where the progress bar comes up and itunes has a window that states it is waiting for ipod. Progress bar never moves. I tried downloading older firmware versions (3.1.2) and the result is the same. I can't seem to get the ipod to start the recovery. It is stuck at 0% progress on the ipod and itunes waiting for ipod.

I have also tried with loading itunes on another computer and trying there. Same result. I have the latest and greatest version of itunes.

Any thoughts, tricks, 3rd party apps/tools that might help move past this stage?
