    Hello:

I have a 32GB 1st. gen ipod touch and the wi-fi has been acting very weird.

Sometimes the ipod touch is assigned a wrong IP address (169.254.XX.XX), subnet mask, etc.

Laptops connected to the same WiFi router have no problems with DHCP assignment.

Forget network or renew lease have no effect.

Suddenly the ipod touch gets the correct network information (192.168.xx.xx) and I can surf the internet with no problems.

Sometimes when I try to join the network it says "Unable to join the network".

Other times the lock icon at the right of the network name is not there, sometimes it's there and I am asked again for the WEP key.

I tried resetting the ipod, no change.

Anyone knows why this strange behavior?

Could it be because my ipod touch battery already needs a replacement?

Right now the battery gets sucked very quickly and I need to charge it several times a day even just from listening music.

I have never seen this weird behavior.

    Thanks

Are you sure you have no virus on your iPod?
There has been some security issues lately and there were cases where iDevices were hacked, sending information to the hacker or even enabling the hacker to control the device.

I am not sure. I didn't know ipod touch's could get infected by viruses.

    How do I check that?

    Thanks

Anyone knows how to check if my ipod touch as a virus?

I finally was able to surf the net with the right network settings but unfortunately it only lasted a few minutes.

After that, again, the ipod touch was assigned an ip address 169.254.xx.xx

    Thanks

Never mind guys, my brother did not tell me he had installed a second router (linksys).

That is what was giving me all this pain in the butt.

    Thanks
