If this is true I hope the higher end isn't more expensive. Im counting on this as I'm selling my 4th gen on eBay just now :s

I think I am seeing a marketing pattern...I wonder if this is Tim Cook's style...old hardware but also the same thing in a Premium package. For instance the Macbook Pro and the Retina MBP. Now they are saying there might be an updated iPod touch, with a more Premium model as well. This will be an interesting route for Apple to take...

Well I guess that's nice. I really wanted to see a new iPod touch but I dont have any hype for it anymore. Maybe I will switch my touch for a nano.

Hm... if it's good enough I might sell the iPod Touch 4th gen and get the 5th gen. My network has 5GHz which I can't even use on the iPod Touch. The microwave, even my bluetooth headphones and everything interferes with the 2.4 GHz, so 5GHz is a must for me pretty much.

You know, they've always continued selling the previous generation touch with 8GB and without major hardware improvements. The 8GB touch "3G" was actually a 2G for example. It was the same with other products, that's not Tim Cook's doing, it already was there before him.
Otherwise I don't see any actual information in this news post. It is possible that it will be redesigned (no word about how it will be), it is possible that it gets a larger screen (which I still doubt even for the iPhone), it is possible that it gets a new dock connector.
The only thing that would be logical but only when Apple really introduces a new one is the dock connector appearing on the next generation iPod touch. It wouldn't make sense to have a dock connector only on one device, it's for all or for none.

After reading this thread decided to take itouch off eBay. If apple sell new itouch at a premium then might not bother getting it. Waited 6 months to get redesigned mbp with better screen res and naively thought it would be same price. Not making the same mistake twice

No, I'm saying the current iPod touch design also gets the internal upgrade, but the Premium model has more killer feautures. It's like the high end (od design) Macbook Pro. It has the same internals (except and SSD )as the Retina Macbook Pro, but it doesn't have the thinner design and better screen.

That's what I meant. I know they sell previous Gen, but they never updated the internal on them and given you a premium.
