I have an iPod Touch 2G 8GB 4.0 Jailbroken and I've heard all about these SHSH files and "blobs" I know I don't need to use them but what exactly are they?

An Apple "signature" that your device is allowed to upgrade to the firmware. If you save them, you save like an "yes" from Apple to you upgrading your device to that specific firmware.

Think of them as little signatures that the device needs to restore to a firmware. Apple signs them until a new firmware comes out for a device and that's your window to back them up.

Just to warn you, even though your bootrom doesn't need shsh blobs to restore, apple is now putting 'soft' shsh blobs for all devices in the firmware itself. So for any firmware after 4.0, every device ha to back up their blobs

Start Cydia when it's fully loaded Tap on "Make my Life easier"
then it takes about 3 Days till your SHSH blobs are accepted on the Cydia server.
