There's something wrong with my ipod, every time i touch the play button, it switches back to pause, i can't hear music, i even did a restore but it didn't work, i don't even have sound, when i'm going to listen to a sound for the alarm i can't hear it, even if i have all the volume, i think there something disabled on the ipod that doesnt let me hear anything, or play music.

I also have this problem. I thought maybe something was stuck in the headphone jack, but that's not the case. Hopefully the collective wisdom of this board can come up with something!

Out of interest, did this happen after a firmware upgrade?

OK. It is more than likely your firmware. Here's what I did:

    Attach ipod to computer
Put iPod into DFU mode (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034) [there are links to this on this site too, sorry)
Restore ipod to an earlier firmware when it actually worked. I put mine into 2.2.1
    It should work.

By the way, I did this running itunes 8.2 which I installed on a computer I'm about to sell.

Now, I have no idea why firmware updates are screwing up ipods, but it seems to be fairly common. If anyone has advice on how to safely update these ipods, I'd be very grateful!
