    hi

i got an ipod touch yesterday.

I downloaded and installed itunes 7.5

I plug in my ipod touch. i get the message "This ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again".

I have tried this several times with no luck.

I am using a windows xp machine, service pack 2 home edition.

My dad has a similar PC, and it works fine on his. However its not practical for me to use his all the time, i want it to work on my own.

    Hmmm..

Are you one of those people who barely ever re-boot, etc?

Try re-booting, if it doesn't work, re-boot a few times, see if that works.

I read a post on one of the boards that suggested you uninstall all iTunes & Quicktime, restart, download the iTunes installer, EXTRACT the installer using WinRAR, and then install the components (e.g., QuickTime, etc.) using the .msi files before installing iTunes. That solved it for some people...

Well, one of the many suggestions was to download the .EXE from Apple. Then you would run WinRAR (after you've installed it), open the EXE, and select Extract so that it breaks the installer into all the components to install... Haven't tried it myself, but that's the suggestion I saw...
