Has anyone noticed this? I have recently upgraded to the iPod touch 4G and found that above the 2G the location service is incredible (in the UK.)

But the thing that makes it awesome is that.. it doesn't need wifi? Well whenever I have been off of wifi (at work and college) I have been able to locate myself brilliantly? It seems to only work when there is wifi hotspots in range. Does anyone get this?

Yes, it's a feature from Skyhook that allows your device to locate itself without being connected to a WiFi network.

I really did notice this. At school, I can't find any WiFi networks, yet it geotags all my photos (More or less) accurately. I also watched the maps app coming home one day with the location feature, and it moved along with me (Depending on the WiFi spots in the area)

Kind of, it uses known WiFi spots around you to triangulate your position. Like GPS, but on a smaller scale.

It's not able to locate me at the train station where there is no wifi networks.

One interesting thing I have noticed is that at college even though I have one wifi network I took two photos at either end of the campus and they both plotted exactly where I took them

You just see a blue dot yes. But I mean its good for taking photos because it just geotags them for you.
