Would there be a way where the iPod touch could piggyback on your cell phone signal and use it like an iPhone?

The only way would be to use a tethering-capable phone, then find some way to make the Phone & SMS applications through WiFi. (Which is basically impossible).

What do you mean? Like using your phone as a modem for your iDevice?

If that was possible, there would be no iPod Touch, only iPhone...

However, since it's not, that's why we have 2 separate devices.

Not onto your cell phone signal. However, there are apps that allow you to make calls and send text messages over wifi.

Stick a Mifi to the back of the iPod touch.

And pay the monthly fee for it. Just like an iPhone, except your iPod will have a giant black tumor on the back.

You would need Skype, a free sms wi-fi app and constant wi-fi. If you factor in the cost of have wi-fi and internet and skype charges, you are looking at more or less the price of an iphone every month

    EDIT:
But you wont have the portability of an iphone. Unles you have a wireles 3G network card.
