    Ok guys.

An iPod touch mod that I wanted to know was possible or not.

    What I want to do:
I want to have super-enhanced battery life and don't want a charger hanging off my iPod. So I thought 'Why don't I whack my iPod into a broken iPhone?'. I did some research, and found that the iPhone's (All gens) battery mAh is almost double that of the iPt's.

    The work involved:
Get a broken iPhone 3G/S (for shape/size reasons) and pull out the front glass panel and mainboard. Un-solder the battery from the mainboard. Do the same with my iPod touch. Solder the iPhone battery onto the iPod mainboard. Slot the iPod mainboard/front panel into the iPhone shell. Done.

    Concerns:
1.iPhoneOS will crack the sh*ts and refuse to boot.
2.The dock connector from the iPod will probably need to be replaced with the one in the iPhone, and there will be incompatability issues.
3.The headphone port - What should I do with that?
4.The internal speaker and WiFi/BT antennas may not work.

Do you guys think this will work?

What concerns do you have about this working?

Do you think the extra battery life would be worth this mod?

Thank you, and If you can't answer any of my questions, at least tell me what you think.

    Thank you.

Batteries are built to fit individual devices. Search the internet and you can find battery suppliers that offer longer lasting and higher powered batteries (than the original stock Apple battery) for yrou iDevice.

Just thought that it would be a cheap alternative to that. I could possibly get an iPhone battery for free, I know the people.

To be honest, the percentage of success would be about 10%. And it would probably be cheaper and easier than spending all that money and time on doing the conversion. It would be awesome if you could pull it off though...

Nice statistic... where did you get 10% from....

You'll probably find that an iPhone battery won't fit in an iPod touch. As I said they are made to fit the space inside each device.

If you read my OP, It says I want to put an iPod touch into an iPhone shell, so the iPhone battery will fit.

As you probably know, 98% of all statistics are made up on the spot and completely useless...

I'm in for a NO WAY! to that. I'm not 100% sure but based on my experience with the iDevices (I mean hardware experiences) it won't work out:

    1) iPod Touch glass/frontpanel does NOT fit iPhone case.
    2) mainboard(s) + battery do NOT fit into iphone case
    3) make sure what you're going to do...try unsoldering something like THIS:

    ( (C) iFixit iPt 2G Teardown)
battery in iPt2G is soldered using flat-cable! and is connected to the board.
    while....iPhone 3G:

    ( (C) iFixit iPhone 3G Teardown)
battery is not even soldered to the board and the contact point is another one (on left side of the battery vs. bottom in iPt 2G)...

even for a guy like me who already took apart many iPod Touches and iPhones and repaired most of them your task seems nearly impossible to achieve.

sorry for these bad news but one has to be realistic - go for a new propietary battery with more mAh =D
