iPod Touch Dev Team has discovered the old malformed TIFF exploit in iPhone 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 to crash. This also applies to iPod Touch 1.1 and 1.1.1. It’s all about crafted TIFF file which will cause buffer overflow. The hackint0sh people said the techique was used to crack the PSP firmware, but not sure whether it will help to jailbreak or unlock the iPhone 1.1.1 new firmware. Anyway, it will be a great news after all.

iPhone Dev Team has also tried to boot into 1.0.2 restore mode under 1.1.1 iPhone. Things are going not pretty well, but let’s support them and wait.

Edit: Thanks to all diggers. We can’t imagine that will happen to our site. We just report the stuff we saw in the hackint0sh forum. Keep clicking and we will report more great tech news and software tutorials on our site.

Thats because a TIFF exploit is more complex than you would be led to believe...

It's no execute, the tiff won't do much unless they can get the code somewhere else.

It's a vulnerability in the TIFF rendering engine. It doesn't check for correct integers which can cause it to crash (such as using negative numbers when they are not allowed)
