Hi, I have a problem. A big problem. I bought an iPod touch (1st Gen) running firmware v 2.1. I plug it in my computer I get an error message that says: Usb device has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. The iPod does not list in iTunes or My Computer.

    Any Ideas

    Try a DFU restore

My computer cannot recognize the device. It does not even charge so I can't put it in DFU.

Manual DFU, you shouldn't need to plug it in

Here's a better idea --- send it back to Apple, if its still under warranty that is...
