when i plug it in it displays the picture of the cord that plugs into the ipod touch to itunes, so then i plug it into itunes but it says i need to unlock the passcode, which i know what it is, but i cant turn it on without it showing the picture.
what do i need to do?
    thanks

Well, all I would recommend is DFU mode to restore. I don't have much experience with the pass code, for I never use it. This should work though.

    1. Connect the iPod to your computer via USB cable.
    2. iTunes recognizes it, just a tab on the left side.
    3. Hold both the home button and the power/wake (top) button until the tab in itunes disappears, continue holding.
    4. Then let go of the power/wake (top) and continue holding the home button until the tab reappears or a pop-up in iTunes appears.

Oh, I thought when it was plugged in, it would give the error on the iPod main page.

    EDIT
: Lol, srry. Download Ziphone, go under advanced features, choose to put the iPod into Recovery mode or DFU mode

    Link for Download

Then iTunes should ask you to restore

    Well, have you tried DFU?

It is different than recovery and should do the trick...(screen goes black, pay no attention)

    Look above at Ziphone.

It is more of a "force restore" of sorts...
