    Hi, I have been given an IPod touch which is brand new, never used, but was purchased 2 years ago, so it is one of the first verions out. I have done the below steps only and this is what happened.

    * opened the box
    * connected to USB port
    * ITunes opened
    * the device was not recognised
    * Itunes said it was in recovery mode
    * clicked restore
    * error message came up 1603

    I cannot seem to do anything with it!
    Can anyone give me any help????

    Do a DFU restore. You may also have to pay to restore because 3.1.3 costs money for your iPod.
