Ok first of all Id like to say that I have done over 7hours of research and tried methods to fix my iPod touch but so far nothing has worked.

I bought an iPod Touch 2G 8GB and I have a huge problem restoring. First I am running iTunes 9 and when I plug the ipod in it goes straight into recovery mode but no matter how I try to restore it either by clicking restore or by shift clicking and trying to restore to

    1.1.1
    2.2.1

It doesnt work and iTunes 9 recognizes it as an iPhone. And every single time I try it a message pops up saying "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware isnt compatible"

And ive tried many times going into DFU mode by holding menu and power for 10 seconds then releasing power and it still does the same thing!

Ive read it would work with 7.5 but when I do try iTunes 7.5, it labels it as and iPod (thankfully) and says "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored an unknown error occurred (1)"

And I know how to get into DFU mode and as soon as I do it still says the same damn thing! Its just starting to piss me off already.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS UNUSUAL PROBLEM???

You can't install 1.1.1 on a second generation device. It IS incompatible. Try downloading the latest firmware directly from iTunes and restore to that. It will be compatible, trust me.

Ya but as soon as i click restore on iTunes 9 it says the software for this "iPhone" (as it labels it) isnt available. Im 100% sure this thing was jailbroken and got messed up in the process.

Does your computer have an internet connection?

I know it sounds retarded, considering you're posting on a website, but I don't know what you're using.

Look at the model number printed on the back. Does it start with MB or MC?

    Hold on, nevermind.
