This is REALLY weird. Can someone explain this to me, this has had me scratching my head for weeks.

A few weeks ago I was driving to a party, and so used by touch to look up directions on maps before I left. I also left the screen on a map of the destination area so I have an easy frame of reference when I get there.

But, as I drove closer into the vicinity of the map I had, I found something strange was going on. The "locate me" feature on the touch was working! I could see myself driving around on the map - the little blue icon was moving as I moved.

This was really weird as I was not connected for one second to any wifi, and I moving far too fast (being in a car) anyway for the touch to even locate one. So why was it acting like a satnav?

I will have to try that out because that would be rather awesome and I would have to be jealous.

I can't believe nobody knew this. This is a normal feature on the ipod touch. It uses local wifi hotspots to determine where it is at any given time. As long as it keeps finding hotspots you'll keep moving on the map. I don't think they even need to be open hotspots because its using the mac address of the router to determine where you are which I assume it gets each time the touch "connects" to the router.
