Edit: [CAUTION! This post can cause arguments if misread!
    You should know before reading:
*I dont hate ipod touches, or any apple products
    * I sent this exact message to apple. This isn't directed at anyone at all but apple]
    * If you get sick of the first part, maybe read the second.

An email to apple, mainly making fun of their advertising and telling them i hate them being so protective of their firmware.

Why read? it may be funny: "with iPod touch, you’ll always have a great HD video camera with you."
No. You will have a cheaply made, mass produced, metal and plastic piece of icrap.

Clever: In fact, the ipod hardware is the limit, not the crap software. "The sky is the limit, not the height one can jump."

or just interesting: The apple 'killswitch' can be removed so apple cannot remove applications people morally own all rights to (not legally, thanks to paranoid apple).
    ***************************************************************************
I recently looked at apples website for info on the new ipod touch. I liked the features, but apple were being a little too pushy wanting people to buy it really bad, so i sent them a friendly email. It was sort of meant to be an attempt to stop apple being so secure and controlling:

"Apple, you are trying way too hard to be popular. You try to be a part of everyones life, and just for a little bit of cash. Oh, look at this! An ipod touch. BUT WAIT! Its newer! We call it NEW ipod touch! (to be honest with yourselves the 'new ipod touch' is an iphone with a sh#t design and massive software limitations)

"FaceTime on iPod touch lets you hang out, catch up, and goof off with friends in an entirely new way." its called a video call and any decent phone can do it.

"You can never have, or see, too much fun. That’s why iPod touch has two cameras"
most phones also have two cameras. Phone companies don't waste time talking about their cameras as if they vote in elections and read the morning paper. More people have phones than 'idevices'. Amazing, huh?

"with iPod touch, you’ll always have a great HD video camera with you."
No. You will have a cheaply made, mass produced, metal and plastic piece of icrap.

"You can record video in low-light settings, thanks to the advanced backside illumination sensor."
The same as the one on the old touch? I'd hardly call a Light Dependant Resistor 'advanced'.

"create your own mini blockbuster right on iPod touch using the new iMovie app — with Apple-designed themes, titles, and transitions. It’s available on the App Store for $4.99."
Trust apple to talk about a feature you have to pay for.

iOS4 features are already availiable for older firmware versions and are nothing new. All one needs to do to unlock these features is hook an ipod up to a pc and click the jailbreakme button and voila! no restrictions by apple! The apple 'killswitch' can be removed so apple cannot remove applications people morally own all rights to (not legally, thanks to paranoid apple). Themes can be used to "transform your ipod into a completely new device with visually stunning improvements", similar to words apple would use if they implemented a theme system on a non jailbroken device. Multitasking, video wallpapers and custom lockscreens and boot logos can also be utilized. In fact, the ipod hardware is the limit, not the crap software. "The sky is the limit, not the height one can jump."

Jailbreaking allows one of the most awesome features availiable apple hasn't even considered! Wi-Fi syncing! This means no cable is necessary, except for charging!

You try WAY too hard to make people buy your slightly updated products when they already spent a fortune on their last apple product. $230 for an ipod? i have a $150 touch screen phone. It has much the same features as a 'new' ipod: camera, microphone, accelerometer, multitouch, etc. Yet is cheaper. This means it isn't the hardware or the physical ipod device that drives up costs. It is a greedy corporation called apple with workers that dont get outside and are too rich to want to. Yea, its a great life, you have anything you could want and dont have to listen to individuals. One individual cannot make a difference. Not to apple, who dont care about people unless they want to buy their products. Then they pretend to care.

Now its no surprise why so many people despise apple, and are dedicated to finding ways around your security systems. If you take a moment to think, you may see the bigger picture. Why do you think, after working so hard making super secure devices and software, people find ways around it? This is good vs bad. This is freedom vs the world of apple."
************************************************************************** Intermission! Grab a drink, some snacks or just rest your brain, thats a hell of an email!

Err, my mind just went to sleep, can't you explain this with a little less words and a little more sense?
    **************************************************************************
"To be honest, i wanted apple to think a bit more
and stop trying to make their new ipod out to be
the absolute best device anyone can ever buy that
can do anything you would want to do in your daily life.
They make it sound so much better than it is.
Its just a crap (downgraded) iphone, without the phone,
(video calls over wifi? your kidding, right?).
Apple is paranoid and hates users unleashing the
full potential of idevices, ipod touches in particular.

Apple wants full control over how you use apple products.
This is why they employ security features, encryptions
and server vertification checks for old (or all) firmware versions.

My point is they are trying so hard to make everyone replace their
old ipod touches with the new one because it has ios 4.0 or 4.1 and
is hard to jailbreak. I am trying to make apple give us a bit
of a break (back off a bit with the security and restrictions) but it will
take a lot more complaining and more points that are to the point,
not just funny or constructive criticizm.

I mean come on, how hard is it to allow proper usb support, like any other
mp3 player, so you can access stuff on your ipod without itunes?
Apple does this purely and simply to force people to download and use
    itunes and quicktime.

The two things apple hate most are jailbroken
devices (free will to do what you want with the device you spent a fortune on),
and microsoft windows (or just microsoft). Apple is like a government.
A small group of people wanting to control a much larger group of people with their
    own ways and rules."

    Dude, you've got it wrong.

Apple isn't purposely stopping jail breaking.

Every single jailbreak, has used an exploit found in the software, with some in the firmware (bootrom). Every single exploit found, is a chance for "bad hackers" to steal all of your personal data, which is what apple is trying to block. Apple have said that they don't want you to download porn on your iDevice (see Ryan Tate-Steve Jobs conversation) because majority of ipods sold are teenagers, who shouldnt be looking at that anyways.

Apple likes a closed system. And so do 100 million other people. You have two main choices: Open, buggy, hard-to-update, slow, unsecure, crappy UIactions. or Closed, secure, easy-to-update, clean, fast. If you want the openness, get a freaking android, if you want security, get an iDevice.

To sum it up, Apple is doing what it thinks is right for the average consumer. If you don't like that, then you can go to android or windows 7 phone.

It's a marketing technique. You show people what it can do. Every company does it.

Also, don't compare it to your "150 dollar phone". Your phone didn't cost you 150 dollars. It was most likely around the ballpark of 400+. You got it at a subsidized price because you signed up for a plan.

The camera is a mass produced weak camera. But it still gets the job done.

If Apple truly hated jailbreaking they would pull the plug on Cydia, Steve Jobs has the right to stop any application from running on the iPod with the press of a button. He hasn't used it yet, it has been proven to be built into the software. He actually talked about it in one of the keynotes. Apple stops jailbreaking by patching exploits.
Exploits can be used to put malicious software on your iPod, it's a security thing.
