I bought a "bricked" ipod touch from a friend for 10 dollars who had tried to jailbreak it. It is the new 8 gb model.
Anyway, the screen won't turn on even after a power home reset. When I plug the ipod into my computer, it is recognized in itunes, but in restore mode I think. When I try to restore, I get a 1600 error.

Any ideas on how to get it working again? Sorry, but I have no idea as to what method he was using to jailbreak.
    Thanks

unfortunately, it says waiting for device, whether or not itunes is open. Could their be a hardware problem?

    Have you tried DFU mode?

I have tried the button combinations to put it in DFU mode without any response. As far as I can tell, it may even be in DFU mode; when I run this program called "ifuntastic" it says that the ipod is in DFU mode.

    Try it manually.

when the iPod is on, hold both buttons for 10 seconds while plugged into the computer, then let go of sleep but keep holding the home button until it connects in iTunes

I've tried that, and from what I can tell, its already connected to itunes. It says "Itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode." Doing the button combination doesn't change it, and I still get the error when I try to restore.

You're restoring to the newest firmware right? And if it's still under warranty take it to Apple.
