    Hello,

My name is John, I have just bought an iPod Touch 2nd Gen on ebay Here is the information I have:

    iPod Touch 2nd Generation
    Current Firmware: Unknown
Has a serial number on back: So I believe this means its an MB Model

    I have latest iTunes 10.0.1

I am working on Windows 7 with all latest updates.

The iPod is on the Connect to iTunes screen when I turn the iPod on.

    ========================
So heres whats wrong and everything I have tried:

The iPod Touch I bought (knowing it was broken) wont get past the "Waiting for iPod" during recovery

    I have tried:
Regular Recovery Mode(Plug in ipod and click restore in itunes)

DFU Recovery(Held down the power button and Home Button for 10 seconds and then released the power button while still holding the Home button for 30 seconds and clicked restore on iTunes)

Custom Firmware Restore(Holding Shift then clicking restore and choosing the .ipsw file from my downloads)

Tried all the different methods above using 5 different usb wires that I have with still no success.

and was still having problems, I researched here and on google for different soloutions and tried:

i tried doing all the above steps with the use of iReb and still have the same problem.

i do not know if the iPod was previously broken or not.

So I am basically stuck here at this point:

My iPod Touch 2G connects to itunes and Apple Mobile Device Manager is installed correctly,

I click the restore button on itunes it says "Restore and Update"
    and this is what happens:

    Extracting Software (on iTunes) ->
Prepairing iPod for restore ...(on itunes) ->
(iPod flashes and then shows the apple logo with the spinner at the bottom of the ipod) -->
Verifing iPod restore with apple (on itunes) ->
Waiting for iPod...(gets stuck here and the ipod is now showing the apple logo with a progress bar that does not move)

so if anyone has a soloution I would be very grateful.

    Thanks,
    John

Retry DFU mode make sure it has nothing on the screen and recovery mode same as dfu but with the usb and itunes logo. If its gets stuck on the bar, you can also try killing all itunes processes/reboot computer and trying again.

Tried what you said heres what happened:

The iPod Restarts I held the home button (iPod Touch reset a notification popped up in itunes saying "iPod in restore mode or something like that while the ipod was all black with no backlight I clicked OK on itunes then clicked restore)
    Then:

Extracting Software ect... all the steps then ipod Flashes White for a couple seconds and changes to the apple logo with the spinner while itunes says "Preparing iPod for restore..." and still stuck in the same place.

shsh 4.0 is no longer avaliable, though, I fail to see how it will work.

Your iPod is acting up during the restore, if it's in a good condition, then it's probably acting up because it cannot easily communicate with the computer. try a different cable or a different computer.

@sdettmer - The method you provided did not work
@GazaIan - I have tried already with 5 different cables and on 3 different laptops all with latest itunes.

Is there any solution to this problem, or if anyone knows that can cause this?

Well I initially tried jsut a restore and update,

Then I proceeded to try using Firmware File:
    iPod2,1_3.0_7A34_Restore.ipsw

is there a recommended version that I should try?

I download them from here: [EDITED OUT]

Remove that site from your post, Its illegal for anything below 4.0 REstore to 4.1 by clicking on restore not shift+restore. I 95% guarantee it wil work.
