Om I'm no slouch in terms of computers (Windows) Ive had iPhones that I've jailbroke, and unlocked both with sim's and software. I currently own a 3rd gen iPod touch..works fine. My problem is with an 8gb 2nd gen iPod Touch. It's a friend of mines and the sequence of events are as follows...

    1. She couldn't get her laptop to recognize the iPod
    2. A co-worker reset everything or something because its stays on the "Connect To iTunes" screen.
    3. I can't get Windows to recognize it either Restore or DFU

So this leads to my current wanttosmashmyhead feeling... I've put my 3rd gen into DFU 10 times but I can't manage to get this 2nd Gen into DFU. I have 2 different cables and I've used both on different USB ports in many different combinations. Same result...NOTHING

The closest I've gotten is the screen staying black (and I've tried this both ways) unplugging and plugging in the cable back into the iPod. Then I get an error from Windows 7... USB device not recognized. Then nothing happens, and I have to reboot the iPod. iTunes never recognizes the 2nd gen either.

    I've tried Blackra1n, Quickpwn, Ziphone, iH8sn0w, libusb32, iLiberty, redsn0w... I don't know what else to do....

Now keep in mind my 3rd gen ipod (32gb) works perfect so its not my PC. Every single thread I've read says DFU must work..I say "oh really, well F'n show me" LOL PLEASE HELP!

Well it seems you can really do anything.
I would take it to best buy were they could probably fix it.

Try reinstalling iTunes or using a different computer. Or just go to the apple store and restore on a mac there.

Wait, are you trying to jailbreak or what? Or just putting it into DFU mode?
