I'm noticing not a lot of retailers have protective/rubberized cases for the iPod Touch 3rd Gen. Some still have the 2nd Gen. labeled as "Newest iPod Touch".

My question is this: If I was to buy a 2nd Gen. Case, regardless of material (Hard Plastic / Metal / Rubberized Plastic / Silicone will my iPod Touch 3rd Gen fit comfortably inside it? They are almost identical it seems, I've compared the two. I just don't want to waste money buying one/a few if the dimensions are off.

If it's an 8GB the 2nd gen and 3rd gen are identical... I'm not sure about the sizes of the 32GB and 64GB iPod touch 3G models as they have the newer iPhone 3GS hardware inside.

The cases should fit both 2G and 3G. I remember seeing the dimensions of both iPods being the same.

It should fit. I'm using a 2g case for my 3g 32gb iPod.

Yes, they're identical. That's why the cases at the Apple Store are advertised as 2nd gen cases (I doubt they just refused to sell 3rd gen cases

dimensions are same, but the light sensor has moved so some cases will mess up the auto-bright feature

But, cases that didn't even have something blocking the top part of the screen shouldn't make a difference whatsoever.
