Early in the morning under the bright sun, I took my new toy ipod touch out to give him a sun bath

but I discovered something wrong with the screen. I saw a few rows of pixels(5-6rows) are not working surrounding the screen. My ipod touch screen is not in full size. Is this normal? Or something wrong with the hardware? I try to restart but the problem still exist. Change wallpaper, but it also still exist. It can be easily spotted under sunlight. Why?

Yeah don't worry, I'm pretty certain they are supposed to look that way, it doesn't look like an accident or a malfunction with the Hardware or Firmware.

I remember a discussion on this before, it's something to do with the way they're made, but it's intentional. I presume at least partially it's to give a margin for error so if the screen's slightly to the left etc. it won't make a difference.

But yeah, it's not a problem, perfectly normal

Can anyone kindly post your ipod touch screen 2nd gen under light? I want to make sure whether it is my ipod touch screen problem or it is normal to be like that. Because it is very obvious to me recently. I can notice that gap very easily even without under bright light. Thank you!

those dead pixels are pretty usual. Apple provides full screen size also in terms of resolution. But while manufacturing the LCD there's no possibility to avoid this gap of dead pixels.
It's usual - if you compare 1G and 2G's screen resolution they will be exactly the same.
Put them next to each other , both LCD are same size.

And you can also notice this gap even if device is off because the "pixels" in this gap aren't really pixels, they have no crystals underneath like an active LCD pixel has. they have a slight different color if you hold the LCD which is turned off under bright sunlight.
