I have a 2g 8gb MC ipod touch. I have 3.1.3 jailbroken with Spirit on it.
I tried upgrading to 4.0 via iTunes, and my ipod has been stuck on the recovery mode since then.
I downloaded 3.1.2 and tried to install it via iTunes, but I got an error that my ipod is not authorized for that firmware.
    Any help, please.

You cant go back to 3.1.2 unless you backed up your SHSH blobs.

    4G iPod touch
Search on google Recboot. It will get you out of Recovery Mode.
    ------------------double post merged------------------
Then try putting your ipod in DFU Mode then, upgrade.

P.S. Remember to save your shsh blobs before upgrading!

He has an MC iPod. So no, you need SHSH, you can only go forward in Software.

just to let you know, every restore is now signed by itunes

I was stuck on this I used redsnow to get me out of it. Just follow the normal instructions, you should be able to get it into dfu for a couple seconds, which is all you need.

Uh, since it's an 8gb, doesn't that mean he can go back down to 3.1.2, no problem?

Make sure you have iTunes 9.2.1, put your device in DFU, restore to 4.0, then jailbreak if you would like. The guide in my sig could help.

I tried the latest redsnow beta, but it wouldn't accept any of the ios 4 ipsws.
    What firmware did you use?
    Thanks.

    Thanks to this forum-fixed

i was browsing this forum earlier and saw a thread about wifi sync on your computer screwing up th restore of an ipod.
I finally was able to uninstall wifi sync from my Macbook, and sure enough,
when I tried to restore thru iTunes, SUCCESS!

Thanks to everyone, and thanks to this site, I have a restored ipod touch with ios 4.
