I've done that like 10 times. Unjailbroken to ios 4 doesnt even work for me. DFU, the whole shabang.

    Latest iTunes?
    Have you tried DFU mode?

    Try a DFU restore.

Recboot or whatever it's called, kick you iPod touch out of recovery mode. Dos it give you a error? Did you jailbreak the 3.1.2 with redsn0w before you went to 4.0?

are you sure your not missing the fact that ipods go to recovery mode upon upgrading firmware? Maybe I'm looking at a completely different thing... is this the first time you upgraded firmware?

This is a general issue with iPod touch 2G's. IF you search the forums, there are several other users who have the same problem.

All the usual solutions such as DFU, upgrade iTunes, restore, etc don't work. Neither do alternate solutions such as iRecovery or RecBoot.

There is no fix for this issue as of yet but try contacting your Apple dealer and they will hopefully replace it with a new/refurbished device.

    NO NO NO!
Just keep trying, mine gave me the same problems, now its fine. I reinstalled iTunes, rebooted my computer and switched USB ports, something did the trick.

    Wow, really?

I've done all the basics at least 3 or 4 times over and it didn't work.
