    2G iPod touch
    Hello everybody.

I'm new to this forum and this might be posted somewhere else (although I didn't find it anywhere) but I have a couple of questions to ask.

    1. Is there a way to find out if the iPod Touch I am about to buy will be a 2G or 1G just buy looking at the box or something like that without buying it first???

    2. I live in Australia. By now would most iPod Touchs in stores be 2G????

    3. Is there any significant changes between the 2G and 1G besides 2G can't be jailbroken yet???

    and lastly

    4. If I buy any iPod Touch (1G or 2G) do I have to use iTunes to set it up and transfer files to it????

I would really like appreciate some straight forward and easy anwers. Thank you

    1. The new box is transparent and much more thinner, old boxes are black and made of cardboard whilst the new ones are made of plastic

    2. yes most stores should be 2g, 1g ipods shold be obsolete unless stated....

    3. Yes, 2g is thinner and has a curve, with built in speakers better battery life and a new appstore

and no it can't be jailbroken YET

    4. yes for both u must use itunes

    (1) The boxes will be in a plastic, clear box rather than a black one (like the iPod Touch 1G ones)

    (2) Yes. One way you can tell is by the price. 8GB should be $329, 16GB should be $419, 32GB should be $549.

    (3) A faster processor, speaker, volume button and that's about it.

    (4) All iPods need iTunes to set it up and transfer files in and out of it.

EDIT: Too slow! Ninjaed by jo790.

    1. The 2g packaging is plastic and very slim. It is similar to the packaging of the Nanos and is much different from the 1g iPod Touch black cardboard box.

    2. Yes, Apple has shipped them out.

    3. There is a volume button on the side, an internal speaker which is beyond useful, faster processor, and a shiny curved backing instead of the dumb flat 1g ones.

    4. Yes, you need to sync to iTunes before using. If you want to get apps which most people do, you need an iTunes account. You do not need a credit card if you plan to get only free apps, but if you want to buy any music or apps, etc. you will need a credit card.

I hoped I answered your questions, and I strongly recommend getting a 2g iPod Touch.

Nobody mentioned that the 2G also has the Nike+ system. Also the App Store only comes with the 2G, you have to pay $10 extra for the update to get the app store on the 1G.

I thought most iPod 1Gs come with at least 2.0 preloaded on there.
