Hold power and home for 10 seconds. Let go of power and keep holding home until you see or hear your iPod connect.

First turn it on buy holding power (nothing should happen). Then plug it in. Make sure iTunes is open, and then put it in DFU.

Also, don't worry, iPod Touch 2G is impossible to brick.

    Fool proof steps:

    1. Hold Power ALONE for 5 seconds.
    2. Plug your iPod in, and restart your computer with your iPod plugged in.
    3. Open iTunes.
    4. Open your clock and use that to time your DFU perfectly.
