Im just wondering if this is just normal to all of the 2g ipod touch. I had the first gen but it has about 7.5gb of full capacity but this one merely has 7gb.
Im planning to give it back to Futureshop and might just replace a new one.

On the apple website it says 1GB = 1000000000 bytes, which is not true. 1GB = 1073741824 bytes. Then underneath that it says "Actual formatted capacity may be less".

It explains they are using 8GB to represent 8000000000 bytes.

No, they use a portion of the memory for the iPhone OS.

That's with every device that has internal memory, like my cell phone. It has only a fraction of the full memory it should have, it did say, "Actual user memory may be less" because I would imagine the OS or whatever you would call that crap was taking some of it up.

At least, I think it's like that.

Well I have a similar issue, I know about the byte thing and that the written capacity is wrong but how come my 8GB 1G says Capacity 7.12GB and my 8GB 2G 6.8GB?

Firstly, they count wrong, giving the wrong value to a gigabyte. Secondly, about 500MB is in the other, system partition.
