I'd like to take this a step further...
Is this type of minijack configuration standardized?
And if it this, does anybody here know of a bluetooth sender that uses such a minijack with microphone support? Because that would mean you could use any type of bluetooth headset with the iPod Touch 2G...

EDIT: would something like this do the trick?

    Device:
    2G iPod touch
    dim bulb

The three spacers are necessary for all the controls: see top of the thread.

Maybe Seidio 2-in-1 Stereo (in ear) Isolator Earbud for Samsung Instinct would work? Maybe v-moda vibe duo In-Ear Headphones w/ Mic for Samsung Instinct would work? Maybe http://www.apple.com/ipod/inearheadphones/ would work?

Maybe Griffin SmartTalk Headphone Adapter + Control & Mic for iPhone 3016-SMRTLKB makes any headset and microphone work.

I think a 3.5 mm jack is a requirement, however I am trying to do this just by reading.

    It is not easy.

I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to do but I can tell you the I have for sure made Skype VOIP calls to my friend's cell phone and we can talk back and forth (though there is a slight delay).

I am using an 8GB 2G Touch, fring 1.0.1.5, wifi connection, Griffin SmartTalk adapter, an active Skype account (with SkypeOut), and some generic earbud headphones.

I can also confirm that midomi works fine with the Griffin SmartTalk.

Welll I can´t get the Griffin SmartTalk to work with midomi, it says "no microphone detected". I´m also using an 8GB 2G Touch firmware 2,2. Anyone have a clue?

I have a 4-section jack, a new iPod touch 16 Gb, version 2,2 and a miniature electret microphone with a built-in amplifier. I connected the microphone (minus to the "top pin" and plus to the bottom "common pin".
    Recorded with the iTalk application.

The sound quality is just excellent for a 0,50 Dollar microphone.

I have an 8gb 2nd generation iPod touch, and the $30 Apple iPhone headphones work fine with the recording apps and fring. Also, you can use a regular computer mic without an adapter by following the directions at my blog, but it is kind of awkward to unplug the mic every time you want to hear the other person on fring. This is basically an inexpensive microphone solution for using recording apps or voice recognition apps.

I had some problems which are now solved. I wrote.

However I found that the 4-section jack is configured from base to top:
    1. Microphone input (plus).
    2. Microphone input (minus)/Common headphone.
    3. Headphone left or right
    4. Headphone left or right.

Now I can use Skype (Fring application) with microphone and headphone.

Thank you for your support, it works but it shouldn´t be that way. Here is from the Griffin site:

"SmartTalk is now capable of acting as a microphone for your iPod, as well as track controls for music playback. This extra functionality will work with your 4th gen iPod nano, 2nd gen iPod touch, and 120GB iPod classic."

I have sent a message to the Griffin Support, let see what they answer.

Hopefully this will allow me to plug in my rca cable and record my mixer.

Can't believe apple just didn't put a stereo line in.

    Thank you for your time.
