Does anyone know which set up the headphone jack is that allows mics?

I noticed there's 3 contacts inside the slot and only 2 spacers on the jack plug. The iPohne headphones however have 3 spacers (due to the mic). I just wasn't sure if the sequence was the same or if they changed it so you'd need to buy a new headphone set. (like the first two on the phone is L and R and the third is mic and the iPod first is mic and second two are L and R etc...)

I noticed this is coming soon and is listed for compatible with iPod Touch 2G...

Example of jack with 3 spacers, left, right and mic...

well from the looks of that pic it will work with the touch, it has the same 4-section jack. unless apple requires an authentication chip like in the video out cables, or the pin configuration for the mic is really weird, it will work

sorry I wasn't asking if this exact thing would work, I was wondering if anyone knew if the iPhone mic/headphone combo works with the iPod touch or if any mic 1/4" jack does...

As long as the mic is one cord (Audio and Mic) like the iPhone earphones, it will work because the 2g has Line-In and Line-Out support.

any mic with a 1/4 inch jack will work. although I think I'm going to get the $30 apple ones over the $10 Philips Version just because of the remote

Is there a mic/earphone combo that will work with itouch 1.0? I have the 2.0 and my wife has the 1.0 itouch. Tested a cheap mic form ebay on my 2g and it worked with fring but hers did not work. No sound.

    Appreciate any info.

the first gen touch doesn't support external mics.
