Here's a tricky one for you guys: My iPod Touch 2G only powers on when it's plugged into a wall outlet, not when plugged into a computer (presumably because of a lower current?).

However, it is possible to put the iPod in DFU mode and it is recognized by iTunes. But when the iPod auto-disconnects at the beginning of the restore process, it never reconnects (because of the power issue mentioned above). So it eventually times out and gives an error: 1600, 1601, etc. Also, the battery is not low... I can leave it plugged into the wall all night (it shows the charging symbol) with the same results.

Has anyone had a similar problem or have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Edit: I should also mention it turns off immediately when I unplug it from the wall charger.

Try it without using a USB Hub

@litobro I'm not using a hub-- I'm plugging it directly into the USB ports on my computer (and I've tried all three ports).

@MuseFan288 So far I've tried restoring under Windows Vista, under Windows 7 on a different partition (which is I believe is similar to trying on a different computer because it has a separate install of iTunes, etc.), and have also tried plugging it into the USB port on my Wii (which is always able to power it on under normal operation). I suppose I could try a different computer, though I'm not expecting much

Thanks for the quick replies! Anything else to try?

@jawcl Well, my iPod is recognized in DFU mode--and I can confirm it is in DFU mode using various tools--but the recovery screen only appears when it's plugged into the wall outlet. It does not power on normally when plugged into my PC.

@ipodtouch2guser I do have iTunes 8.2, so I may have to take it to the Apple Store if nothing else works...

@all This has actually happened a while ago, but it basically fixed itself... All I can remember doing last time was trying resets, restores, charging all night (via wall outlets), then leaving it unplugged all day. This time it doesn't work!

Edit: I should also mention it turns off immediately when I unplug it from the wall charger.
