I tried going through the redsn0w jailbreak last night. It stopped working after the iTunes restore. I unplugged it when iTunes said it was finished and was restarting. Now I can't turn it on and Windows/iTunes will not recognize it.

I've tried entering DFU mode and nothing happened.

    Any help?

Hold down the Home button for five seconds.
Keep it down, then start holding the power/sleep button for ten seconds.
Release the power button and keep holding the home/sleep button for about 30 seconds or so.

dont say DFU wont work because it will, and theres no way it wont unless you applied physical damage to the iPod. try it again and time it right.

Oh, wow. Timing is very important. Until now I haven't been able to get any response from it. I'm restoring it now. I'll try the jailbreak again when it's done.

    Thanks for your help!

Shoot. Now I'm getting errors 1601 and 1604 when I try to restore to the patched firmware.

How do I get around that?

    EDIT: Nevermind, thanks!

Iamzim, this post has saved me from throwing my ipod in the bin. I was at wits end having failed restoring the ipod several times, but being able to be restored on someone else's computer. As soon as I then plugged it in my machine, it would automatically say it needed to be restored again, and consequently freeze up and get into the loop again where I couldn't restore it.

I was getting the "unknown error 2003" and it just wouldn't restore.

Your advice has helped immensely, so I thank you VERY much!

It's called DFU mode... a black screen signifies you're in DFU, anything else and you're still in restore mode.

Anyway, old thread is dead. Closed.
