So you have an iPod Touch. That's the first step done. For this tutorial you need to have either a 2nd or a 3rd generation device. If you have one of these iPods, then continue to follow this tutorial.
The easiest method to jailbreak is by using blackra1n. This program was created by Geohot, and it is THE BEST.

REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A TETHERED JAILBREAK. IF YOU TURN OFF YOUR IPOD TUCH, YOU HAVE TO PLUG YOUR IPOD INTO YOUR COMPUTER AND RUN BLACKRA1N TO BOOT IT UP.

    Follow these steps:

    1. www.blackra1n.com - click on either the mac or the windows icon and download blackra1n.

    2. This is what most people who have problems wiu jailbreaking don't do. On your iPod touch, check your firmware version. Go to settings - general - about and see what firmware you have. If it is 3.1.3, follow this step. If it is anything else than 3.1.3, go to step 3.

    3. Now plug your iPod Touch into your computer and open up itunes. Click on your iPod icon in the left panel and you will be on the "summary" page of your iPod. It will show your capacity and other information. Now, hold the "SHIFT" button on your keyboard, and while doing so, press on the "RESTORE" button in iTunes with your mouse. A new window should pop up. Navigate to your downloaded ".Ipsw" file (if the file you downloaded was in a .RAR format, just rename the .rar part to .ipsw), and click on it. Then press open. Now another window will pop u asking if you want to backup your files. If you haven't done this already, press yes and back your files up. If you don't need he data on your iPod Touch, press no and let iTunes restore
your iPod. Your iPod should reboot and display an apple pogo with a status bar underneath it. Wait. When the restoring process has finished, continue to step 4.

    4. Now you've restored your iPod Touch to firmware 3.1.2 ( go to settings - general - about to check this)
Open the program blackra1n. Make sure iTunes is closed and your iPod Touch is still connected to your computer and press "make it ra1n". Wait a few minutes and if ou followed this guide correctly, your iPod should reboot after a picture of a man, George hotz, with iPods beneath his face. Now you will have a new icon on your iPod Touch called blackra1n. Turn on your wi-fi. Open blackra1n and install EITHER ICY OR CYDIA. NOT BOTH. Now you can delete blackrain and congratulations.

You now have a jailbroken iPod Touch.

We already have multiple threads of this. Do we really need more?
