I have a few questions because I spent all day yesterday trying to jailbreak this iPod to no avail. Luckily it still functions with the stock, Apple firmware (after restore) but I am not satisfied with the limited features available with this OS, and thus would like to "set free" this device. However, tracking down information on this particular model of the iTouch device is frustrating to say the least, and most of the information I found is several months old (dating back to February 2010 at the latest). So without further delay, here are the question I would like clarified:

Can this device be jail broken?

What method/process is used to do this? (Please be clear and detailed)

If this device can indeed be jailbroken, will it be tethered?

If not, is there anyone working a method to jailbreak this specific model?

And is there a tentative date of any kind for it's release?

Finally if jailbreaking is not an option, what other alternatives do I have to increase the functionality of this device?

    Your responses are appreciated.

Restore the iPod to the 2G iPod touch 8GB 3.1.2 firmware.
I'm aware yours is the G3 iPod. It doesn't matter in this case.

It will work. Then use Redsn0w.

EDIT: Click HERE for more information (Coca Cola's method)

Bubalooshi fyi "Coca Cola" is banned from this forum; so I'm leery of using his method. but http://jailbreakmatrix.com/ pretty much says the same thing. unfortunately neither of these methods will work for me because pressing SHIFT+click on restore has no effect verses clicking restore without holding shift.

I am using a laptop with WinVista ultimate x64, in iTunes 9.0.3.15, and the ipod touch 2G 8GB with 3.1.3 firmware.

This seems to be blocking me from continuing any further with these methods so... any ideas how to load the 3.1.2 firmware (the file i have is called: iPod2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw)? what am i doing wrong?

+opening the ipsw brings up itunes but doesnt spur any activity.

+could this be an issue with infrared keyboard glitches (have had this problem before with the tilde "~" button not working in video games)

    Thanks again

Although I appreciate your input, holding SHIFT and CTRL did not remedy the problem. Still, when I click "Restore", iTunes automatically downloads the latest firmware to install rather than allowing me to point to the 3.1.2 ipsw.

    Thanks.

Have you tried Spirit yet? It is supposed to work on 3.1.3 firmware. Please report back.
