As the title says, I need help to SSH my iPod 1st gen with 3.0 firmware. I know how it's just that it isn't working. I'm using winscp and when I try to connect I get this error: "Network error: Connection timed out". I also tried using iPhone Tunnel Suite and I get this error: "Network error: Software caused connection abort". Is there any other way I can SSH? I want to SSH to get some roms on my iPod and remove some from there. Thanks for everyone who helps.

if something is wrong with the winscp program, and you don't need to go wireless, then you could just as easily ssh wired using iFunBox. Google it and download. Then you can put all the ROMS on as you want.

    Checklist:

    1. Make sure you have your iPod's current IP address
    2. username: root@YourIPodsIP (i.e. root@192.168.1.3)
    3. password: alpine
    4. SSH port 22
    5. Make sure your computer is connected to the same network as the iPod.
    6. Make sure openSHH is installed and running on iPod.

I think the problem is 5. I'm using a desktop and not using my own wifi connection because I have a cable connection. I'm basically using someone else's wifi.

That's the reason then. If your desktop had a wired connection, and your iPod was wirelessly connected to the same router, you would be fine.

Why don't you Buy a wireless Router (Wifi)
there Cheap, and super easy to setup. and noone can nick your connection with WEP

    here you go:

if you compare it to the price of a new computer game, that's pretty sweet.
it's a G+ one aswell, meaning it's not the fastest in the world, but it's pretty fast.
i have a G+ one with me playing Gears of war (which Rules), my Dad's pc streaming movies to my PS3 with me now and then, sufing on my iPod or Psp, at the same time with no glitches. and to think, that it NOT illegal like what your doing, it's probily faster and it's safer. what more else do you want really?

EDIT:don't forget my pc which goes online to play Cysis on Hightest Graphic, there is Still No Lag.
