Here's a speed test between the 1st generation iPod Touch vs the 2nd generation iPod Touch. This is here to help you decided whether you want to upgrade or not. Hope it helps a bit. And yes, I was bored...

    UPDATE

Some of you all complained since the 1G was jailbroken and that may alter the performance. So I did a restore on it and redid the test again. This results should be better since I wasn't as jittery with my fingers.

there's definetly an unfair factor between the two, but i think the 2g would still be a bit faster, according to Steve Jobs.

There's still comparison videos of unjailbroken versions with the 2G outperforming the 1G. It's not really that drastic, and it's not that big of a deal.

The only difference I've noticed between real world usage is when I tried to play Cube (Cube version 1.1, I don't know how it is now) on my friends 1G. It ran fine on my 2G, but the 1G was sluggish.

Ok, thanks for the input everyone. I don't feel like unjailbreaking my 1g though lol. Trust me on this one though, even without the jailbreak the 1g is noticeably slower still.

i say do a complete restore of both and then test it.

and you can also see he touch and releases the 2g quicker, im guessing he's right handed?

Yeah, that person is me btw and yes I'm right handed. I also forgot about the app backup program for jailbroken iPods. So I'm probably going to retry the speed test with the 1g restored. I can't do it today since I'm pretty sick and have been laying down all day with my iPod touch 2g. So I will update this thread with my new video in a day or two considering how I feel. I will also try running apps from the appstore to show the speed of both. I'm pretty sure the 2g is still going to be faster so I will put the 2g on the left hand side and my 1g on the right.
