Yesterday I bought an iPod Touch at my local Target. It was $299.99 for 16gb. On the Target website, the iPod Touch 2g for 16gb (which is an iPod Touch 2g) is $299.99 and they don't show any old iPod Touches anymore.
After I got home and of course, opened it, I realized that it isn't a new 2g! No volume controls, external speaker and the Info Screen said it's software version is 1.5. I only noticed this after I opened it too. The guy at the store said that they don't have cases for the new iPod Touches yet. I believed that meant I was buying one.

Anyway, is it possible to return the opened iPod Touch 1g 16gb I bought yesterday to Target so I can get an iPod Touch 2g 16gb?

    Please help!

    Same thing happened to me!
I'm new with this whole iPod deal, and I wasn't aware that there were more than one "generation" already with the iPod Touch. They just handed me one. And now I had to update from my 1.1.5 to even add apps and deciding now to return it.

Wow that's funny how could you mistake the 1g for the 2g they have totally different packages

It's easy if I've never seen either package and also easy if they're the same price and nobody tells you anything otherwise.

It's actually quite easy to get mistaken if you never knew there was other versions...

The iPods are locked in a case...I asked for an iPod Touch...employee opens case and hands me an iPod Touch. I later find out there is a second generation.

Anyways, ryanmr: go to "Restore" on the main iPod Touch page on iTunes. It reformats the iPod to it's original state, deleting all your applications, songs, videos, etc. The you're set to bring it back. Also, when you "Restore" the iTouch, it also creates a backup, so when you set up your new one, it will restore it back to your old iPod

I went back and returned mine today. No problem, it's just 20 dollars more

I'm going to Target tomorrow to return it. If I'm lucky, they'll accept this one back and have some 2G's there.

    Wish me luck
