    Hello,

I have a jailbroken ipod touch 1G 2.1 that I'd like to update to 3.1.2 (dont need jailbreak actually).
I've read somewhere that I can update to 3.1.2 using shift+restore and select the 3.1.2 firmware from my computer.

Whats the best approach in doing this? Do I need to restore my ipod first (thus losing all my music and stuff) or can I just use the shift-restore method, since losing all my music would be a pain in the ass.

    Any help is appreciated!

Press update or upgrade button and then pay for it in iTunes

    Don't listen to this ****** ^.
He's just some apple conformist nerd.
Download it somewhere and then shift click on update and select it like you said.

The fact that my ipod is jailbroken presents no problem?
And my music wont get deleted, right?

    thanks for the help!

Shouldn't get deleted, but in case it does, just sync it with iTunes and it'll all be back.

I'm not sure if this is aloud in this forum or not, Mods delete post if it breaks the rules.

But if your friend has a new iPod Touch 3G on the 3.1.1 firmware, ask him if you can update the iPod for him to the latest 3.1.2 firmware. Once you do that, you will have to download the 3.1.2 firmware (on iTunes) and update that iPod. When you plug your iPod in and you click update, it'll let you on the 3.1.2 firmware for free!
