I have a 16 GB ipod on FW 2.2.1 jailbroken, and the is a major issue with the battery life. when listening to music, the battery life is tolerable, but still drains much faster than usual (lasts around 4-5 hours), but if i watch a video or play any game for more than 5 minutes, the battery meter shoots to red and shuts itself off. If i quit playing when the meter is red, after a while the battery meter shows green again, close to 100%. if i let my ipod go to red and continue playing and it shuts off automatically, the battery meter shows green again as well.

so, I am unable to use my ipod for anything other than music.
SSH, wifi, etc is off as well. my brightness is always at the lowest possible setting too.

    Any help?

jailbroken devices use alot of battery.....try restoring to a fresh 3.1.3 (unjailbroken), and then come back here to post results.

You could need a new battery (they do wear out over time).

If you're covered under Apple Care warranty, you can likely get a replacement battery for free.

    If you're out of warranty...
