Hey people, I got an ipod touch 1G as a gift but it has a 1.1.5 firmware.
I have been trying to upgrade it to 2.2.1 by shift click Restore, by putting it in recovery mode and restoring from the 2.2.1 FW but I keep getting an error.

    Any help.

The funny thing about this is that I jailbroke my IPT2G when the tethered first came out and now I can't simply upgrade a 1G

Just hit update and buy the software or learn how to steal better!

    I think you're using a 2G firmware for a 1G iPod touch.

try finding 2.1 firmware or even 2.0, restore with that and then you can click update in iTunes and it will let you download 2.2.1

Or just pay the $10 for the new firmware. Over priced if you ask me

no I'm not using a 2G firmware. I think I may have to google for 2.0 $10 is just too much for something that was "free"

Try restoring it in DFU mode instead of normal Recovery Mode.

Even DFU doesn't work, I ran into this the other day with a friends 1g iPod Touch, the 2.2.1 firmware you can find on the net just doesn't seem to work, but you can use 2.0 or 2.1 and then iTunes will let you download the official 2.2.1 and then you can find it on you computer.
