I am looking for a decent and not to expensive (free would be nice)
software to download my music and such from my
    ipod to my computer.

The PC recently crashed and, I want to get all my stuff off the ipod
because if I sync i'll loose it all.

    Any suggestions???

total commander is the best ftp software. search for it in this forum, its great. make sure you get the T-pot add-on with it to connect to the ipod. when you search for total commander....everything will be explained. do you know how to get the photos off of it by any chance? this is something i have not been able to find.

Try WinSCP. I have used it for simple file transfers. I have not yet transferred music, but there is a guide here on how floating around. It's by the mod Hazed.

If you you the above methods, your music is stored in the /private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Music directory. Just copy all of the F## folders to your desktop. The songs will all have four letter titles (has to do with how the iPods store music), but when you import them into iTunes, they should get their normal titles back.

Alternately, a google search of "iPhone transfer to computer" should give you some good results.

    Yup, it absolutely can.

For music, just go to the /private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Music directory, and copy everything to your desktop. Sorry, I don't know where video is stored.

I know there is an option in iTunes to sync bookmarks with Safari or whatever from your computer, though I'm not sure it works in reverse.

The video is stored in the same F## folders as the music.
