When I try to sync for maybe a new app or one new album, iTunes decides to "update files" for over 1,000 tracks. I've noticed that this behaviour is also causing alot of dupes on the iPod itself. Is there any way to stop it from doing so much work for one simple sync?

    I'm on an iPod Touch 3G on 3.1.2 Blackrain'd.

hmm... that never happens to me. it does take a long time to "back up ur ipod" which is done so u dont lose anything after a restore. if i want to add 25 songs, the syncs take from 3 min. to 10 min.. sync time depends on how often u sync. if u sync a lot, syncs will be faster, because there is not much to "back up". if u dont, they will take forever. i never really open itunes anyway. its just sitting on my laptop eating my hard disk.

^^ same. I use iTunes only when uploading or deleting apps/tracks.

Do you fiddle around the items stored in the HDD. If yes, iTunes will react haywire. Sometimes, I download and keep some songs in the folder where iTunes looks/syncs which causes double tracks and additional items being synced without my notice.
