OK, I spent a while last night trying to jailbreak my iTouch. I got to the step where you need to put it in DFU mode. I followed the instructions, but everytime I would go into restore mode, not the DFU mode it was asking for. I tried over and over, and eventually used the alternative software here and now it seems to be stuck in restore mode. I've restored and tried the traditional way to put it into DFU again, but it gets stuck in restore mode no matter what method I use. Please help, I'm so close to jailbreak, yet so far.

No because you can still go back to 1G. And do it.

That's the thing. All of the jailbreaking GUIs and the manual jailbreak don't recognize the ipod as being in DFU mode, just recovery mode,

DFU mode=Recovery mode. Once you succesfuly put into DFU mode, itunes should give you a msg along the lines of "iTunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You will need to restore this ipod before you can use it"

redTool will tell you along the bottom as to what the status of the iPod is. This includes DFU
