I've searched google, this forum, and all corners of the globe, and have still found no answer. I have a 1st generation ipod touch, not jailbroken or anything, and it started acting up. Well, I decided to throw it into DFU mode and it's not coming out. I get the same old error "the ipod 'ipod' could not be restored..." with a sequence of numbers depending on how I try to restore it. 1611 if I try 3.0 or clicking restore without shift, 20 if I shift-click and try the original firmware, etc. Here is a list of all that I've tried so far - restoring it with a whole host of different firmwares. putting it in DFU mode again and again and again. Jawcl's fix. re-installing itunes trying it on different computers, etc. What can I do? I'm at my wits end. I'm pretty sure if I phone up apple and ask them to replace a two-year-old ipod they'll laugh in my face.
