Maybe because screen shots are possible now. in any case, what I do is just quit that little pop-up and wait for iTunes to appear.

sometime ago, iTunes wasn't able to detect my iPod either. what i did was just press the home screen button while iTunes is up and my iPod is plugged in. Worked for me.

    photo deletion

the computer recognizing the iPod touch as a camera is caused by saved photos or screenshots inside the iPod, for this to stop happening just delete the photos from the saved photos folder in the Photos.app

Why are you treating it like it's a problem? Apple goes out of its way to allow Windows to recognize the iPod as both a music player and camera for photos, and you complain about it? I always thought it was a good thing, i mean it didn't have it in 1.1.x

FYI, with the new screenshot feature in 2.x, it's supposed to be recognized as a camera so that it can transfer the photos.

For the iTunes thing, try booting out of recovery mode. Unplug it and turn it off, and then hold the home button as you plug it back in. Wait for it to be recognized by itunes, then reboot the iPod.

No, you won't lose any data or have to restore by doing this.

This also happens to me but after I installed iTunes, Windows XP no longer detects it as an Apple camera.
