generally scrathes are permanent, but usually with the ipod back it gets real scratched and then when theres scrathes all over it, it will just look normal and it will actually be more comfortable in your hand for some reason

well, theres no way to remove it. However if you happen to have an ipod touch defect like the light leak or microphone ticking, you can go to apple and get it exchanged.

There are some polishers that can make it appear better, but there's no going back once it's scratched.

I guess a chrome car polish called "Autosol" is supposed to be very good at removing scratches. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG_vAV_TRMg If you look at that video, this guy uses Autosol, and makes the back of his touch PRETTY SHINY, compared to what it was before. Also, once you remove the scratches, PUT A SKIN ON THE BACK. I put a skin on mine the day after I got a replacement, and it will do a great job of keeping scratches away. Otherwise, scratches are just inevitable.

I used to use brasso all the time on my iPod video. Almost had a purple tinge in the sun, didn't remove all the scratches but it was wicked shiny.
