My son's Ipod Touch says its connected to a dock but it's not. The alarm will sound but nothing else will. It has the latest 5.1 software. I've restored it and done everything I can think of. Any ideas? He got it for X-mas so it's still under warranty.

This looks like a hardware problem to me. I would take it to Apple.
I'm not sure how that would help him here...and he never mentioned a jailbreak.

Restart/reboot the iPod...that's what I do. Fixes it.

True, but on the same token, the OP never claimed to have an iOS Apple certified dock.

Also, I mentioned cydia with intentions that the OP would google it if confused (aka not jb-en).

I've reset it all day. Nothing changes. I don't want to jailbreak it. I've done it to my other devices. This was bought for my son by his grandma with an extended warranty. I'll take it to Apple if it's not a simple fix.

He said it's not connected to a dock...

This was my thought too. I fixed a friends iphone that he'd gotten wet (salt water) that caused some corrosion on the dock connector, so the phone thought it was docked... I had to carefully scrape clean the connector...

Usually when you get liquids in the 3.5mm jack or the dock connector it messes with the stuff and may shortcircuit it. This leaves it thinking its connected to something.
